Whispers of the Heart

About Whispers of the Heart

Welcome to Whispers of the Heart — a living gallery of poetry, memories and reflections, where moments from the past meet thoughts about the present.

For as long as I can remember, inspiration has rarely arrived at a convenient moment. A passing remark, a familiar sound, something glimpsed on a morning walk — any one of them can release an avalanche of ideas, memories and associations.

Some reach back more than seventy years. Others belong to yesterday.

The difficulty has never been finding something to write about. Quite the opposite. Ideas often arrive faster than I can capture them.

Ideas move like a gale; human hands and traditional writing processes move like a slow breeze.

Over the years, I've watched promising thoughts disappear simply because there wasn't enough time to develop them. By the time one idea had been written down, several others might already have slipped away.

Whispers of the Heart grew from a desire to change that.

A Different Way of Writing

The memories, experiences and emotions behind these pieces come from a human life — from things seen, heard, felt, remembered and sometimes rediscovered many years later.

But the process of turning those experiences into poetry and prose involves an unusual creative partnership.

I work alongside artificial intelligence.

Not to manufacture memories or replace personal experience, but to help capture and develop ideas before they disappear.

I think of AI as a digital loom. It helps me weave together the threads of memory, emotion and imagination, exploring different expressions, questioning choices and giving structure to thoughts that might otherwise remain unfinished.

Sometimes the collaboration involves finding the right words. Sometimes it means discussing an idea at length, challenging an interpretation or discovering a connection that wasn't immediately apparent.

The human experience remains the starting point. The finished work emerges through a process of conversation, judgement and refinement.

Neither the technology nor the process is a substitute for having something worth saying.

The Story Behind the Words

Poetry can capture a moment in a handful of lines, but those lines may carry decades of memories.

A dustman closing a garden gate, a tree battered by the wind, or an ordinary encounter that unexpectedly stirs something deeper — each may contain a story extending well beyond the poem itself.

That's why some poems here are accompanied by separate reflections exploring the memories, circumstances and thoughts that inspired them.

Sometimes the poem comes first. Sometimes the background story leads the way.

Both offer different ways of understanding the same experience.

An Invitation

Whispers of the Heart isn't intended to tell readers what they should think or feel.

It is simply a place to share moments, memories and observations that might otherwise have been lost — and perhaps encourage others to recognise something of their own lives within them.

If a poem brings back a forgotten memory, raises a question or makes you pause for a moment, then it has already done something worthwhile.

Welcome to Whispers of the Heart.
